Exodus 22:16-17: "pre-marital sex" = the beginning of marriage?

I don't have the power to heal souls. My job is to protect people less powerful than me.
You have more power than you think. Did you ever helped someone with, say sadness? Maybe even cheer someone up? Provide hope, even a little?

I'll be sure to keep you as far away from my family as possible.
LOL

I'm not approving of pedophilia or defending them.

I'm just pointing true fact that in choice between:

A)Punish criminal
B)Make criminal again contributing member of society

Correct choice is always B for society. It's obvious why.

IF you send someone to prison, well, what will happen? During prison he will make new friends. If after leaving prison, nobody from "decent society" welcomes him, them all his remaining friend will be criminals. What will be his income source(s) be? Crime, since nothing else will be available.

So, you have just created permanent problem. Did you protect your family? Only in short-term. Dealing with short term issues by making them go away for short time and making them worse in long time isn't wise.

Case in point. USA federal debt.

Also - going back to Exodus 22:16-17 - the Father in Heaven does not give authority or veto power to the husband’s wife. The only one that has a voice is the girl’s father.

Also, it’s written that the Father’s ways are higher than our ways.

So the commandment that the husband can add wives without roadblocks within his household is holy, righteous, and good (Romans 7:12). So, why are there so many Christian women believing they know better, and giving themselves authority and power where the Father in Heaven gives none? What is the fruit of women grabbing authority and veto power where the Father gives none? Imagine if the CEO of a corporation cannot add employees. How can he grow his company? Women hide behind their lust for pride, control, and jealousy in the name of love. They set aside the commandments of God in the name of romance. No wonder so many of these marriages built upon “romance,” end up unhappy; and/or divorced.

It's always better to practise what is written. Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
Yes, it's true. Advice which benefits only fools because it's written for fools.

But if wise keeps shut up, who else will benefit from his wisdom? Nobody.

If you consider me fool, say so. Be brave as lion as per Proverbs 28:1

Horewer, I would recommend Proverbs 27:17:

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Maybe we as group should actually favor hard debates and hard topics? We can't learn from each other if we only stay on easy things.

How about of 1 Corinthians 6:2-3?

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?

If you avoid facing inconvenient facts of case or unwanted consequences of punishment, will Lord ever be able to put into something more than traffic judge? Or small theft cases judge?

Well, you did put some effort. That's good.

However, you have only covered Germanic law. From my short studies of historical human societies, it seems there is great diversity of beliefs. This would naturally cover marriage, so many different customs would be expected.

Also, how universal is command for bride price?

In Isaiah 7:1 I think those women don't care about bride price. Their position is:

A) Don't ask for bride price and get married and don't become old maid
B) Ask for bride price and become old maid

No way option B is better. Besides, to whom bride price would be paid? 7:1 women to male ratio is only possible after huge disaster with massive death count, so many women won't have any known male relatives. Maybe most?

So, why here insist on bride price? Marriage is more important.

Sometimes it’s best that they contribute to the fertility of the soil.

But if you’ll notice, this thread has absolutely nothing to do with any of your points about incarceration.

I think you’re referring to Isaiah 4:1.

The women from Isiah 4:1 just went through a major judgment. They saw the terror first hand - hence so little men are left. They are seeking biblical marriage.

Compare that with the modern woman - they see their bodies as instruments of pleasure. Going from one man to another - in complete rebellion.

A major point of the bride price is to encourage marriage, and severely punish sleeping around:

Sirach 9:5 GNT
Don't look too intently at a virgin, or you may find yourself forced to pay a bride price.

The women from Isaiah 4:1 don’t have this problem, and there are too little men left. Sometimes discernment is needed. You can see the men aren’t even able to fulfill exodus 21:10.

You are right. My mistake.

Don't blame them all. If boyfriend dumps her, then it's not her fault for relationship breakup.

Shotgun as in shotgun marriage was way cheaper solution for same problem.

Sirach 9:5 GNT

LOL.

Problem only for seducing bad women.

The women from Isaiah 4:1 don’t have this problem, and there are too little men left. Sometimes discernment is needed. You can see the men aren’t even able to fulfill exodus 21:10.
But this implied bride price isn't universal command for all times. Sometimes is pay to think.

How would you motivate modern people to reduce breakup rate?

Sometimes it’s best that they contribute to the fertility of the soil.

It depends. It that best possible outcome? No.

Sadly, it's best possible outcome given limitations of many people.

But if you’ll notice, this thread has absolutely nothing to do with any of your points about incarceration.
So what?

In my personal opinion, one of best thread derailment ever.

The book of Proverbs gives instruction for people to grow in wisdom. It's devine instruction for the wise and warnings for the foolish. Unfortunately fools remain fools.
Best wisdom would be to know when to use proverb.

There are proverbs "better take time", but also "better be fast". So, slow or fast?

Well, it depends on situation.
