Hi!
I’ve been browsing around Biblical Families for a while now, but not formally introduced myself (and my hubby who does not yet have an account on here, but I am constantly reading threads and posts to). I emailed to inquire about the upcoming Biblical Families retreat in the Summer and Julie suggested posting an introduction on here. I am pretty shy initially and find it hard to do things such as these, but with the encouragement of my husband and our wanting to hopefully make it to the retreat seems like the time to do so is now.
My husband, Silvio, and I, Jocie (nickname), have been married for almost 16 years this coming June. We have one preschool aged son. I will be 37 in June and Silvio 41 in September. I was born and raised in a Christian home and my husband grew up in a home that believed in God, but was baptized and committed to his faith more after we met and before we married. Since then we’ve had our ups and downs but overall a blessed life, especially in 2022 when the Lord gave us the blessing of our first son after many years of prayer and hoping and dreaming. We pray and hope he will bless us with more. We became Michiganders in 2024, but are currently in Missouri for a bit because we travel for Silvio’s job.
There’s more I could say about ourselves / our lives, but I think I will leave that for another time and / or in person. Now I will share a bit about how we came to find out about polygyny / plural Biblical marriage and how I found Biblical Families. My husband and I had dabbled in and out of thinking about some sort of polygynous arrangement over the years, but from the perspective of it being sinful and taboo we would always quickly put it out of our minds.
Towards the end of last ear, my husband reconnected with someone as friends, and still just friends, but for some reason something clicked for him that made him question what we had always been taught.
So I started digging. Initially coming up with the usual church posts and articles on why polygamy / polygyny is not okay. At first, I was like this is a sin, look it’s confirmed in XYZ article, but I dug more. This led me to social media. I tried searching for different terms. I was curious if there were actual families out there living some Biblical form of polygamy and not what we had always encountered before (polygamy/polyamory/throuples and all tended to be associated with the LGBTQ etc. world). This is another reason we always thought it had to be wrong. Now we realize it’s all been to deceive us from the truth.
Anyway, I think the first one on the subject I found was Rob Kowalski, and from there McKenzie, tkentmedia, Tidwell, etc. I found Pete Rambo on YouTube, and the Berean Patriot website along with Biblical Families! And here I’ve been hanging around! We recently finished reading Exposing the Spirit of Ashtoreth and started on Thomas Kent’s book.
I was reluctant to think polygyny was actually Biblical, but I wanted the truth and I wanted to be on the same page as my husband, and the more I read and we read, the truth of the matter made itself known. It was scary and liberating all at once. One of my biggest fears was encountering isolation and not being in community. I told my husband, if only we could find other Christians living this lifestyle then in addition to being convicted through the Bible itself, it would be further confirmation that this is not a sin that’s going to send us to hell! What a wonderful thing to find this website!
Both Silvio and I are now sure that polygyny is Biblical and now we are studying and learning so that we can be prepared to fully explain/defend ourselves to family and friends, understanding that they might never agree or be okay with it. While a little nerve-racking, the idea of going to a place where we could meet others that are already living in plural Biblical marriages would very much cement the reality and normalcy of it, if the Lord leads my husband in that direction.
Anyway, I write a lot so I think I will close it up now and hope that this gives a little bit of an idea of who we are, where we find ourselves in this journey, and our eagerness to get to meet any of you who will be attending the Gatlinburg retreat in the Summer, if Lord willing we can make it!
For now, lovely to “meet” you all virtually.
